When my kids were in elementary school there was a program called ELF (environmental learning for the future) put on by Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS). Volunteers were trained once a month for 2 hrs and then a team went into the classroom (or even better brought the students out into nature) to teach the kids. I wonder if there are programs like this in other states? It was so much fun and parents learned in order to teach the kids. I can't say which generation learned more. Another benefit was an easy way for parents to work with the teachers and get to know them. I would recommend this program to any school. So much is at stake we must all do what we can! Thanks for the blogg

Thanks for the information. It's so important to get kids involved at an early age. My 22 month old son helped me pick carrots from the garden and put leaves in the compost pile today. When we were done, he asked to do more!
